Contemporary Poetry by John W. Flournoy

(Under Construction)
In Silent Darkness (a Villanelle)

She speaks in whispers from beyond the grave
Revealing all the things he tried to hide
Within the silent darkness cowards crave

A child he killed when she would not behave
Tells of truths which he has long denied
She speaks in whispers from beyond the grave

He's fearful now when righteous men are brave
Praying that his secrets still reside
Within the silent darkness cowards crave

He hoped his faint belief in God would save
But now must set all hopes of peace aside
She speaks in whispers from beyond the grave

His tiny girl left dying in a cave
While he pretended hope for her and cried
Within the silent darkness cowards crave

With childlike innocence she once forgave
But now her anger cannot be denied
She speaks in whispers from beyond the grave
Within the silent darkness cowards crave
